Kiwi Ears Ellipse

Nice sounding headphones but for long term use the pressure on the ears hurts little bit

An open back headphone with good comfort and a decent driver at this price level has to be applauded

At its price of only $60, the Kiwi Ears Ellipse is very good. But unfortunately, before reviewing the Ellipse, I had already reviewed the Altruva, which, in my opinion, is better in almost every aspect. Perhaps only the sub-bass would make me turn to the Kiwi Ears Ellipse, as the sub-bass on the Altruva is almost imperceptible. But aside from that, in terms of tonality, technicalities, and comfort, I lean more towards the Altruva. The price difference is only $10, and the Kiwi Ears Altruva even comes with 2 pairs of earpads, while the Ellipse only comes with only one.

So, in my opinion, as long as the Kiwi Ears Altruva is still on the market and the price isn't too far apart, I would recommend you pick the Altruva. However, if the role of sub-bass and a flatter midrange is that important to you in choosing headphones especially for studio headphones, I think the Kiwi Ears Ellipse could be your choice.

The KiwiEars Ellipse is my first high fidelity headphone and i decided to buy it due to its price and because i wanted to give headphones a try (I usually use iems). In terms of comfort, design, and the quality of materials, it's all top notch. However, the tuning is what leaves much to be desired. When listening at a level where the vocals are normalized, the bass bleeds into the midrange and makes the signature sound slightly muddy and the vocals lost a lot of clarity, however, if you listen at a level where 500hz is normalized, or when the bass isn't overbearing, the headphone performs more like just a warm neutral, which is much more listenable. But with that said, this headphone takes to EQ very well, and with a 2 dB cut at 200 hz and a 4 dB boost at 2500hz, the headphone performs far above its price point.

Overall, for 75 USD or around 115 AUD, this headphone is a no brainer, the quality and comfort you get far surpasses the price range, and the tuning is very simple to fix if you don't like warm signatures, but if you do like warm signatures, i think you'll find this one to be right up your alley.
